Naive vs Ignorant

When we think of someone being naive about something it’s usually due to a lack of experience. On the other hand, when we think of someone as being ignorant, it’s due to lack of knowledge.

At what point do we stop accepting naivete as an excuse when a person shouldn’t be naive anymore? When a young person doesn’t know something because they haven’t been put in that situation before, it’s perfectly acceptable (and expected) for them to be naive but when an older person with experience doesn’t know something because they have avoided the situation, then blaming naivete isn’t acceptable.

Not knowing because you haven’t had the opportunity to learn is understandable. Not knowing because you choose not to have the experience is a cop out and is unacceptable

Have a great day!
