Getting stuck doing what you are good at

The other day I was speaking with someone who said that he was looking for something else to do professionally. He explained that after college he got a job with a good company and has worked his way up to the point where he has security, a good paying job, the respect of his bosses, responsibility and much more. He also has a beautiful home, a wonderful wife and two young children

The only problem is he is miserable professionally. He is bored, unchallenged and doing things he doesn’t enjoy. His problem is he doesn’t have a clue as to what would make him happy professionally. You can ask a little kid what they want to do when they get older and they have an idea (although most likely it’s not realistic) of being a fireman, professional athlete, gamer, musician etc. This person has been doing the same thing for so long that he doesn’t even have these type of dreams anymore. Without the idea of what he might want to do, he has no idea what direction to even look. Compound that with the added responsibilities of his family and if he doesn’t get a bit lucky he might be destined to professional unhappiness for the rest of his life.

If you aren’t happy doing what you are doing, look to get out before it’s so late that you will never be able to.

Have a great day!

Lawrence
