Why not try revenue

In the past year I have worked with a number of small businesses and start ups to help them with their businesses. Between speaking with the owners and also with various investors of these small businesses I get the impression that many of them have their priorities all screwed up.

There seems to be a lot of talk about needing angel investors, then building up to a second round of investment and then approaching venture capitalists etc.

What about the unique concept of generating revenue? Then using that revenue for expansion if needed. It might not be as glamorous as getting a lot of investment money but it’s a sound business concept that has proven to be successful for centuries.

I remember reading somewhere that when you receive investment money you spend your time figuring out how to spend it properly and when you don’t have money, you spend your time figuring out how to generate revenue quickly. Personally, I respect the latter much more.
