Ought Implies Can

Immanuel Kant came up with the principle that “Since reason commands that such actions should take place,it must be possible for them to take place.” This is known as the Ought Implies Can principle.

Another way to say this would be you shouldn’t say something should be done if you don’t have a plan for what can be done.

An example of this would be saying “someone should fix the problem we are having with crime”. This doesn’t accomplish anything if you can’t come up with a plan that actually does help fix the problem.

If you want something done, make sure you have a plan on how to do it.

Have a great day!
