It’s difficult to get meetings, calls etc scheduled around busy people’s calenders. It’s easy to forget that scheduling one meeting might involve moving other things around.

When you suddenly have to reschedule it sends a very clear message to the other parties. You are saying that something else is more important than what was scheduled.

In some cases rescheduling is appropriate (medical emergency, family emergency) but anything other than that, be careful of the message you are sending.

If someone reschedules a meeting, or call, with me and I know there wasn’t a real emergency but rather a better opportunity, I keep that in mind when dealing with that person later. In the future they might talk about how important things might be but the reality is their actions have already spoken volumes by postponing.

Just something to think about.

Have a great day!
