Know your position in negotiations

When negotiating it’s important to know beforehand what position you are in.

It’s very dangerous to take a hard line when you are in a position of weakness. If you give an ultimatum yet have nothing of value to offer, you tend to end up with nothing. Some people will try that technique even with nothing to offer because they are bluffing but those people know the risks they are taking. If you don’t know the risks then you are simply being foolish.

Know where you stand before negotiations begin and then make your decisions accordingly. You might be in a position of strength but choose to take a soft approach or choose to take a hard stand but the key is to know ahead of time.

Otherwise, you will inevitably lose.

Have a great day!
