The other day I was in a meeting doing a final run through of a new project which we have been working on for over a year. The purpose of this meeting was to look at the small details. Should we change a word on the marketing page, is there a minor formatting change needed etc. It’s the type of meeting that is very important BUT also somewhat dangerous because it’s easy for people’s feelings to be hurt. When a group of programmers have been working on something for a year it’s easy to take any type of criticism of their work quite personally.
This particular meeting went extremely well because everyone went in with an open mind and realized each participant was there for the sole reason to help make this product a complete success. If even one person came in with a different attitude it might have ruined the entire process.
Are you able to give and receive criticism and accept that it’s for the greater good and not personal? If not, do you understand how detrimental this is for group dynamics?
Just something to think about.
Have a great day!
