Many computer programs are building in some type of a dashboards these days. A dashboard can be helpful because it can give a quick update of what has happened in a given period of time.
The problem with most dashboards is while they tell you what has happened, they don’t help you with the next steps to go forward. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking “I saw the dashboard so have a good read on things”. The challenge is to think of the dashboard as the starting point and not the end. Don’t use it as an alternative to diving into the data but rather use it to help you decide where and how to dive in.
Dashboards can be invaluable when used properly, unfortunately too many people don’t use them this way.
Have a great day!
