Do expenses have to go up?

You get a raise at work or you pick up a big client and all of a sudden you have more available cash on a regular basis.

The big question is does this mean your expenses have to go up? Just because you make more money do you need to buy a bigger house or a newer car? When you make these purchases is it because you need to, you want to, or you feel you are supposed to? Are you buying to keep up with the Joneses or because you really want what you purchased?

What if you thought of your increase in revenue as getting you that much closer to NOT working anymore? Instead of thinking of buying things you don’t need what if you cut days, weeks, month or even years off your your work career by putting you closer to retirement?

I realize we tend to live in a “now” culture but if we think more long term, we might enjoy life a lot more (both short term and long term).

Just something to think about.

Have a great day!
