It’s great…it sucks

Recently I was reading the reviews on amazon.com for a book I had already read. Most people like it while a few thought it was awful.

The book is a business book and those who were looking for a step by step blueprint toward success were disappointed while those who were looking for the direction to go were extremely pleased.

If you can find someone to help you go in the right direction, I think you are quite fortunate. If you are looking for someone to provide you with the step by step guide to success you will be looking for a very long time and be quite disappointed

How patient will you be?

How patient will you be?

People are in such a hurry to get things done that they forget sometimes things do take time.

In business, there are so many people who have a get rich quick mentality and they don’t realize that most “overnight successes” take years to accomplish

How many great opportunities have you missed because of impatience?

Encouraging patience isn’t a case of encouraging people to sit doing nothing. In most cases, it’s about working through adversity, continuing when others quit and showing discipline when others around you lose theirs.

Remember, patience does prevail!

Schedules

You know when you need something done by.

You know how long it will take to get it done.

You know what people you want to be involved to get it done.

Do you know those peoples schedules?

It’s amazing how many projects miss deadlines because of not taking into considerations other peoples schedules. Too often, we wait to the last minute knowing we have just enough time to get something done but don’t take into consideration other people schedules. This means coworkers but also suppliers. If you don’t know when you can get a product by, it makes it much more difficult to schedule the work using those products.

Since it’s so difficult to control other peoples schedules, maybe we should stop waiting to the last minute and assume others are available

Do you have a plan B?

It’s important to have a plan and be willing to stick to it but at some point, you might need to go to plan B.

If you run a business and laws change to make it difficult to be profitable, are you going to keep doing what you have already done, even if it doesn’t work or, do you have a plan B?

If a better financed competitor comes into the market, do you have a plan B to make sure you don’t get run out of business?

The thing that makes it difficult to have a plan B is if you plan to fail, you most likely will fail. If you go into a new project willing to change course because of a minor bump in the road, you will most likely not be willing to overcome small obstacles. The challenge is to be willing to work through small problems BUT when something major happens be prepared to go to plan B.

Do you have a plan B?

Have a great day!

Excellence vs Perfection quote

Be passionate about what you do

People frequently encourage you to find work in something you are passionate about. The problem is its difficult to be passionate about certain jobs.

It’s difficult to be passionate about making fries at the local fast food restaurant

It’s difficult to be passionate about cleaning houses

It’s difficult to be passionate about my jobs.

If you can’t be passionate about your particular job you can be passionate about being good at what you do.

You don’t have to love making fries to be determined to be great at making fries. It simply takes pride at doing something well

Be proud if what you do and be determined to be the best at it even if it’s not something you are passionate about and you will find, in time, you will end up finding passion in what you are doing or, you will get put in a position to do something you are passionate about.

Have a great day!

How bad are things really?

How bad are things?

Unemployment is high.
Foreclosures are on the rise
It’s been an extremely cold winter
Businesses are going bankrupt

There are a lot of bad things going on these days but how bad are things really?

How many people do you know who are truly starving?
How many people do you know who are sleeping on the street?
How many people do you know who are dying because they can’t get medical treatment?

I’m not suggesting there aren’t homeless, starving people out there but rather, for most of us, things really aren’t that bad. For most of us, our problems are relatively trivial in the overall scheme of things. When you start to feel bad for yourself and are feeling down realize, for most of us, life really is quite good. If you have food on the table, a bed to sleep on and a job to go, things could be a lot worse. Think about all that s good out there and then go do something good for someone else!

Today or later

Do you look for what is best for you today or what will be best for you in the future?

Does looking for the now result in an unhappy future?

Does looking for what is best for the future mean you are miserable short term?

Can you find something that is best for you today as well as for the future?

Or, do you just not think about these things?

Credit

Think about your greatest accomplishments in life. If they were done anonymously would you feel just as satisfied as if people knew you were behind them?

If not, were they really about the accomplishment or where they about the claim of credit?

Anonymity

Does anonymity encourage honesty or does it allow for cowards to make random postings under the guise of “honesty?”

Just something to think about when you read anonymous posts online.
