The score is 0-0

It’s not uncommon to hear soccer coaches tell their teams at halftime “play as if the score is 0-0” This is done when one team is winning and the coach doesn’t want them to be affected by the score. For example, if their team is winning 3-0 at halftime, they might say this in to try to convince the team not to relax and let up.

In business, when things are going well, we sometimes need this same reminder. Companies have a tendency to get complacent in good times and desperate in bad times. If they were to stay at an even keel and not get too excited over the good things or too down on the bad, they are more likely to experience success over the long run.

When things are going really well, or when things are going really poorly, think to what you would do if the score were still 0-0

Have a great day!
